It's time for an update. I recently finished reading this AMAZING book by Jeff Olson "The Slight Edge".
I recommend EVERYONE read it!!! This should be mandatory! "The Slight Edge is a way of thinking, a way of processing information that enables you to make daily choices that will lead you to the success you desire."
This is about changing your philosophy..(your way of thinking) This is for all aspects of your life, work, relationships, health, spiritual. This isn't another self help book, but a precursor to them and helps you use that information. Not that you will have needed to read any self help books to read it though. This book resonates with me and I have highlighted so much of it, taken notes and just takes everything I've already known and not known and really gave me a better mind set. So buy this book and grab a highlighter and pencil and note book. And take your time with it...it will change your life for the better if you choose that path. It's all about the little decisions me make everyday however insignificant they may be at that very moment, day, week or month even but compounded over time make a difference in the out come of your life.
So as I could go on and on about this...we all have dreams, aspirations etc. And this blog is about fitness, yours and mine. So I first ask myself what do I want as far as my health and fitness personally, what are my goals? Then I may have a goal but have to realize it may take time and it will be the little things, the decisions, the disciplines I do each day that will either give me the results I want or take me down the opposite track.
So to just concentrate on what I have control over, and that is this very moment, this day. Each day is a step in whatever direction I choose. This is what I want for myself: I want absolute fitness & health. So what does that mean? I need to picture it, feel it, taste it, hear it, want it. Everyone is different so what is fit to you may or may not be the same for me. For me this means I've had to change, pay the price of my goals which isn't bad at all, it's rewarding, easy to do and easy not to do. I've been changing the way and what I eat. Eliminating junk/processed foods...has that been easy, not at first being raised on the stuff but now I enjoy and prefer the healthy all natural foods. Exercise is a major part of my life. If I miss a day will it hurt me, no, but over time it will if I continue to miss them. I actually feel awful when I don't give my body the fuel and exercise I need. It has taken me time and work to get to where I am at in my fitness. I recently reached my goal from the last 5 years. I've set a new goal. And by continuing to focus on my daily actions and choices I will reach my new ones. Why do I want this? Because I love how I feel! I love that I'm a much more kind, loving and patient person to my husband and children when I do my work outs. I look and feel good physically, mentally, emotionally. I want to live a long active life.I want to be able to run around with my great grandchildren and great grandchildren. My health and fitness as helped me to be able to help others who struggle or needs support with theirs. I have worked the Slight Edge and have recognized it in my life. It isn't luck or chance that got me here. It's because I've made it happen, put myself in the right places, associating with the right people, making the right decisions over time and those choices I've made brought me here. The whole time reading the book I kept saying "Yes, Yes, Yes, Exactly and oh that is good!" It just clicks with everything I've already known. We can't be idle waiting around for something to happen to us...we have to get out there and make things happen because life is happening with or with out us.
I recently started the P90X/Asylum Hybrid going into my second week. I just started my local fit club at my home where my local friends and friends of friends come and work out with me which is a lot of fun. Getting ready for P90X2 coming out and I'm starting that January 1st. Sooo excited! There was a time where I thought I was pretty fit, but to see the difference now from then. WOW! there is a difference and always room to improve somewhere. I love accomplishing a program and challenging my self to reach new heights and try new things. I LOVE LIFE and want who ever sees this to know they can feel this way too! You just have to "Do the thing and you shall have the power" -Ralf Waldo Emerson
